SUMMARY:Cultural safety and humility in caring for Indigenous patients
DESCRIPTION:Here at Mind Space\, we’re creating a welcoming and supportive community of practice dedicated to cultural safety and humility in caring for Indigenous patients.\n\n\nAs facilitators and staff\, we share a deep commitment to providing inclusive care and better supporting these individuals.\nThis is an invitation to join a space for thoughtful discussion\, questions\, and shared learning\, interwoven with a hands-on medicine bag making workshop.\n\nIn this workshop you will learn some teachings about being in relationship with plant medicines as well as some of the medicinal and healing qualities of plant relatives\, including Sage\, Tobacco\, Sweetgrass\, Cedar\, Devil’s club and more.\nElder Jean Smith and Rhudey will share many teachings about harvesting and sharing in a good way.\n\nEach participant will assemble a medicine bag and learn simple beading techniques. A video will be sent to the Mind Space facilitator on how to flat stitch and edge bead in case people need this after the fact.\n\nMedicines to put in the bag will be provided. Kits with workshop materials will be sent to participants beforehand including various plant medicines\, leather unassembled medicine bag template and leather circle for cutting out the lace\, beads\, thread\, needle\, beading mat and a handout on how to edge bead. Note that participants will need scissors to cut the leather and thread.\n\nTogether\, we’ll explore the significance of traditional medicines and discover how to cultivate safe and welcoming spaces within our groups – recognizing this as another powerful form of medicine in itself.\nWe encourage you register for one of the following workshops below by clicking on the date that works for you. Due to limited spots\, you can only register for one workshop.\n\nWednesday June 18\, 6:30-8:30pm
